GREENVILLE -- Greenville’s Lions, who’ve already appeared in
10 baseball games this season, haven’t played at home this
season.
And they won’t at least for another week.
The 3-7 Lions, who were scheduled to entertain Highland Park
today for their first home game of the 2010 season, have
switched sites with the Scots. Scheduled game times are at
4:30 and 7:30 p.m. for the junior varsity and varsity contests
at Scotland Yard in University Park.
Greenville coach Cody Salyers said because of maintence issues
and the wet winter the Lions have only spent two days of
practice outside on their field since 2010 workouts began in
February. They’ve spent the rest of their practice time inside
the Roy Q. Traylor Athletic Complex.
He said the Lions’ field still isn’t ready to play on, hence
why the District 10-4A game was moved to Highland Park. The
Lions also have a district game scheduled for Friday at Royse
City. Their next chance to play at home will be on March 23
against Newman Smith of Carrollton.
The Lions dropped two games in the Lindale tournament last
week, falling 16-0 to Paris and also to Fort Worth Trimble
Tech. Dylan McEwin of Paris led the Wildcats with a three-run
homer and a two-homer homer in the first inning.
Greenville dropped its district opener by a 10-0 margin last
week to No. 9 state-ranked Rockwall-Heath. The Lions trailed
only 2-0 heading into the fifth inning before giving way to
the Hawks.
