Teams preparing for Cotton Ford Relays

GREENVILLE -- Seven girls and boys teams will compete for the
championship today at the Cotton Ford Relays in Greenville.
The track and field meets gets under way with the first field
events at 1 p.m. Field events scheduled include the triple
jump, long jump, high jump, shot put, discus and pole vault.
The first running event is at 3 p.m. with the 3,200 meters.
The last event scheduled is the 4x400-meter relay.
Greenville’s Lady Lions won the meet title last year with 195
points, followed by Forney with 167 and Paris with 57.
Forney captured the boys team title last year with 188 points.
Greenville was second with 134 2/3 points and Sachse was third
at 114 1/3.
Joining Greenville on the entry list for this year’s field are
teams from Terrell, Royse City, R.L. Turner of Carrollton,
Dallas Lincoln, Naaman Forest of Garland and Kaufman.
The Greenville Lions finished third in their last meet on
Saturday at the Clay Jones Relays in Forney. Dijoun Sheppard
of Greenville won the boys high jump, clearing 6 feet 2
inches, and soared 43-2 for second in the triple jump.
Jessica Franklin led the Lady Lions to fifth place in last
week’s meet, winning the long jump (17-11 1/4), taking second
in the triple jump (36-5) and taking fourth in the 100-meter
hurdles (15.95) and 4x100-meter relay (52.45).
Cobbie Johnson had a big meet for the Lions last week,
clocking a 21.99 for second in the 200-meter dash and leaping
21-1/2 for second in the long jump.
Johnson and Franklin rank among the Metroplex leaders in
rankings compiled by Mike Sheaner.
Naaman Forest hurdler Kendria Burton ranks second in the
Metroplex in the girls 100-meter hurdles at 14.53. Burton took
sixth at state last year in Class 5A.
Burton also ranks among the Metroplex leaders in the 300
hurdles with a best of 45.76.
Naaman Forest’s girls 4x400-meter relay ranks among the
Metroplex leaders at 4:01.89.
Sharice Marine of Naaman Forest has run a 12.44 to rank among
the Metroplex leaders in the girls 100-meter dash and Kelsey
Ben of Naaman Forest has thrown the shot 36-8 to rank among
the Dallas-Fort Worth leaders.
Dallas Lincoln’s 4x200-meter relay ranks among the boys
leaders at 1:29.82 and Demarcus Runnells of Lincoln has run a
22.64 in the 200 to rank among the leaders.
