GREENVILLE -- The Greenville Lions are hoping the momentum
they earned in an overtime shootout victory on Thursday night
carries over into today’s District 20-4A soccer home match
against North Lamar.
Today’s doubleheader at T.A. “Cotton” Ford Stadium starts at
11 a.m. with the junior varsity match followed by the varsity
contest at about 1 p.m.
The Lions matched Paris 1-1 in regulation play on Thursday
night in Paris. Ryan Wilhelm scored the Lions’ goal off an
assist from freshman Miguel Sanchez.
Greenville then collected goals from their first three
shooters to outscore Paris 3-0 in the shootout. Wilhelm
scored. Sanchez scored on a penalty kick after the referee
called a foul on the Paris goalkeeper in the shootout. Evan
Snider scored the Lions’ third goal in the shootout.
Wilhelm manned the goal for the Lions, stopping the first shot
and then forcing the Wildcats’ next two shooters to send their
shots wide of the goal.
The Lions will bring a 3-4-6 season record and 2-2-3 district
mark into today’s home match.
