Newman Smith beats Lady Lions in softball

GREENVILLE -- Newman Smith from Carrollton capitalized on
eight errors to beat the Greenville Lady Lions 8-3 in District
10-4A softball on Tuesday at Monty Stratton Field.
The Lady Trojans outhit Greenville 11-1.
The Lady Trojans wasted little time getting started in the
first inning as Chavera the pitcher singled and Jackson the
centerfielder followed with a single, scoring Chavera from
first. Bynum, the third baseman for the Lady Trojans, then
ripped a double down down the left field line, scoring
Jackson. The Lady Trojans were to pick up one more run in the
first on a Greenville throwing error.
In the third the Lady Trojans made it 4-0 after Porter doubled
and Vondren the shortstop got on on an error.
Greenville scored three runs in the third off walks to Vanessa
Rico and Rachael Cook, an eror and walks to Shelby Doederlein,
Katie Threndyle and Danielle Cook.
Newman Smith countered with two runs in the sixth and two in
the seventh to pull away as Greenville’s district record
dropped to 2-9.
