Wills Point spoils baseball opener for Lions

GREENVILLE -- Wills Point spoiled Greenville’s season baseball
opener on Tuesday night at John Mason Field, handing the Lions
a 6-1 loss.
Wills Point pitcher Colton Newton picked up the victory,
scattering five hits over five scoreless innings.
Miguel Saavedra and Chase Wofford both had two hits to lead
the Lions.
Ethan Hackney took the loss for the Lions, allowing four hits
and two runs in five innings.
Wills Point did most of its damage in the seventh inning,
scoring three runs.
Wills Point got things started in the top of the second inning
as Connor McPherson singled and then Marshall Head hit an
inside-the-park homer.
Greenville scored its only run in the sixth. Saavedra led off
with a single and then Chase Wofford hit a triple, scoring
Saavedra from first.
