Greenville’s 3-1-1 Lions will open play in the McKinney Boyd soccer tournament at 4 p.m. today against Mesquite Poteet.

The Lions battled Frisco to a 0-0 tie in Greenville’s last outing on Friday night.

Mesquite Poteet is a former district rival that traditionally gives the Lions a tough time.

Greenville is also scheduled to play Fort Worth Northside at 8 p.m. on Friday and then McKinney at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

Greenville went 2-1 in the Carrollton Go To Goal Tournament during the first week of the season, falling 3-0 to South Grand Prairie and then downing Gainesville 3-1 and Mansfield 2-1.

The Lions also rallied from a quick 1-0 deficit to beat Prosper 3-1 in their other match.
