Lady Lions win district opener

GREENVILLE -- Tuesday’s opening night of District 10-4A
basketball play brought out the best in the Greenville Lady
Lions in the Lions Den.
Olivia Carter banked in 19 points while Rocio Medrano added 13
as the Lady Lions defeated Rockwall-Heath, 54-47.
Shanae Lowrance pumped in 19 points to lead Rockwall-Heath and
Katelyn Morris added 15. Morris hit three 3-pointers.
Greenville battled the Lady Hawks to a 14-14 tie at the end of
the first quarter.
Rockwall-Heath rallied in the second quarter, outscoring
Greenville 16-13 to take a 30-27 halftime lead.
Rockwall-Heath had its biggest lead of the night at 33-28
following a layup by Lowrance with about three minutes to go
in the third quarter. But Greenville scored four points in a
row. First Medrano hit a jump shot to get Greenville within
33-30 and then moments later Myneshia Crow hit a basket from
top of the key to get the Lions within one at 33-32.
It was nip and tuck for the rest of the quarter as the Lady
Hawks clung to a 37-35 lead.
Greenville surged ahead for good with a 19-10 advantage in the
fourth quarter.
Greenville improved to 6-4 for the season while Rockwall-Heath
dropped to 4-8.
