GHS cheerleaders earn team, individual awards

Members of Greenville High School’s freshman, junior varsity and varsity cheerleading squads earned honors at the recent National Cheerleaders Association Camp at SMU.

All three squads earned bids to Nationals, and the freshman squad also won Performance Top Team in its division.

Numerous team members were nominated for All–American. Varsity nominees were Natalie Jenkins, Bethani Leija, Ashley Langston, Allison Ruprecht, Morgan Bloyed, Taylor Putman and Morgan Driggers. Junior Varsity All-American nominees were Emma Hollingsworth, Brooke Safar, Lindsey Carter and Victoria Patterson.

Freshman nominees were Ashton Williams, Chandler Bigby, Shayna Quick, Keri Porter, Sarah Perkins, Sarah Kym, Hannah Himes and Ashleigh Hall.

Team members can earn nominations from areas such as tumbling, jumps, motions, dancing, stunting and leadership.

Scoring high enough to make the All–American squad were Taylor Putman (varsity), Brooke Safar (junior varsity) and Chandler Bigby (freshman). Lorraine Buchanan also received an All–American nomination for mascot.
