GHS places at Paris powerlifting meet

PARIS, Texas -- James
Powers and Spenser Payne won their respective weight classes
to lead the Greenville Lions to a runner-up finish on Saturday
at the Region 3 Division I powerlifting meet.
Powers captured the
114-pound weight class with his total of 880 pounds for the
squat, bench press and deadlift.
Payne won the
181-pound class with a total of 1,350 pounds.
Greenville’s Benniee
Shelby will also advance to state after placing second in the
242-pound class with his total of 1,515 pounds.
Teammate Charles
Vinson was third in the 148s at 1,115. Vinson also captured a
best bench press award for the light platform (114-165) with
his lift of 290 pounds.
Greenville freshman
Tevin Brookins was third in the 114s at 815 and senior Jamaine
Hamilton was fourth in the 165s, lifting 1,250.
Greenville scored 27
points to finish second to host Paris (35). Waxahachie
finished third at 26, followed by Marshall (13), Ennis (13),
Longview (11), Terrell (7), Nacogdoches (7), Mount Pleasant
(7), Midlothian (7) and others.
The state meet is
set for March 29 in Abilene.
